I recently installed an RS kit in my LP. The higher value volume pots (500k) are a little too bright for me. My pickup was designed for 250k pots. I like the sweep of the RS Superpots, but not the higher value. Besides wiring a resistor and/or cap up to lower the value of the pot, does RS offer a 250, 280 or 300k LONG SHAFT superpot?

Thanks.

What kind of guitar do you have? We don't have any long shafts other than 500k because that is what 90% of humbuckers and P90s are made to work with. Also what caps did you get and how is it wired?

1979 Les Paul Custom. I was recommended a pre-wired kit with Grey Tigers (wired up 50's style).

Do the pots that come with the Treble Tamer kit not come in Long Shaft?

Also, didn't the majority of Les Pauls in the 70's and early 80's come with 250k volume and 100k tone pots? I wish there was an option for people who don't necessarily want to emulate the bright sound of vintage guitars. There are people out there who like the darker/mellower tone of lower value pots, especially people who use the Duncan JB pickup, which is a very popular model.

late 70s and early 80s Les Pauls came with 300k volumes and 100k tone. This is 100% of the reason so many of those guitar no longer have their original pickup. Growing up at that time everyone thought the stock pickups were weak and muddy when in fact it was the electronics. Our Treble tamer kit does have 300k pots, but because we have to take two pots to make each long shaft 300k pot used in that kit. We are closed this week, but call Billy next week and see if he can help you with this. The JB was designed to work in a Fender guitar with the stock 250k pots. If people tell us they are using JBs we always suggest using the Treble Tamer kit.

Weird, Billy told me to stay away from the treble tamer kit. I went with the kit he suggested. But I really think I'd prefer the 300k volume pots.

Well I'm at a loss because he knows JBs need 300k pots and he should know that a 79 Custom is a maple neck with ebony board and is going to be bright by Les Paul standards (not the model lol). I've asked him to reply to this post.

The 280K SuperPots will help with the brightness, bordering on dark & muddy; please call me at RS (or email me) and I can get you set up. Cool
